Randolph Barksdale
Randolph Barksdale founded Barksdale Gardens in 1991. Randolph's interest in gardening began as a young boy in North Carolina. Randolph and his parents realized he had an unusual interest in gardening as he saved his allowance money to buy plants and flowers for his home garden. Both his parents and neighbors began complimenting Randolph on the excellent work he did and the beauty of his design. When deciding on a course of study for college, Randolph's father advised him to follow what his passion is and do what he likes to do every day. Randolph's parents told him that those individuals that follow their passion often become a natural success.
Randolph matriculated to Clemson University with a major in ornamental horticulture studies on an academic scholarship. Based on Randolph father's encouragement to be an entrepreneur, Randolph chose business administration as a second study. Randolph understood by studying both horticulture and business, he could one day start his own landscaping company. Randolph graduated Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in ornamental horticulture with an interest in urban landscapes. He secured a position with NYC's largest landscaping company and advanced rapidly to a senior position.
Randolph desired to provide a more personal and tailored service. He had the knowledge of both interior and exterior horticulture. Randolph also had the unique expertise respecting how the interior environment reflects the exterior environment and vice versa. He said, "Both environments must be designed with appreciation for each other's standing." Randolph appreciated how plants and flowers could provide happiness or solemn or contentment. With this, Randolph decided to make a brave move and begin his own company. At a young age, Randolph provided the dedication and service to make his company flourish. That was 32 years ago. Today, many of Randolph's initial clients have remained with Barksdale Gardens. Barksdale Gardens continues to grow in the residential and commercial markets. And Randolph continues to provide the diversity, variety and pristine service in urban horticulture the most discerning person appreciates today.
